CNG price should increase
Sunday, 15 May 2011
The recent price increase of CNG will affect different sections of society. Due to the sudden increase of the CNG price, public transport owners will definitely take the opportunity to raise the fare arbitrarily as we still do not have the ability to monitor this sector to implement the fare equitably. Need not mention that the transport sector is one of the most corrupt sectors in our country.
So, the government should review its decision to increase the price of CNG. It should be limited to the private vehicles only, which will discourage people to use private cars instead of public transport. It may also help to reduce traffic jam in the city.
On the other hand, ordinary people and most of the students in the country use public transport. The government does not have any mechanism to strictly monitor bus fares in order to reduce public sufferings. The increase of CNG price will also affect the price of other essential commodities due to the higher transportation costs.
I would request the government to set the fare for different types of transport and put the notice up at public places. It must be obeyed by the transport owners and compliance should be verified by the competent authority now and then.
