CNG-run auto owners, workers to form human-chain Thursday

CNG-run auto-rickshaw and auto-tempo owners and workers will form a human-chain across the country Thursday protesting the ban on the movement of their vehicles on highways, reports UNB.
In capital Dhaka, the human-chain will be formed in front of the Jatiya Press Club from 10am to 12 noon while local leaders elsewhere in the country will decide about their venues later.
Announcing the programme at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), convener of Bangladesh Autorickshaw-Autotempo Malik-Chalok Sangram Parisha Md Golam Faruk said they through the human-chain will call the government to withdraw the ban.
The owners, drivers and workers of auto-rickshaws, auto-tempos are now passing their days in a very inhuman condition ahead of Eid-ul Azha, he noted.
Banks and NGOs which lent them money for buying the vehicles are now hunting them for the money, he said adding that they are not in a condition to pay the installments to banks or NGOs after the ban. Faruk also noted that the ban has created an enormous problem for rural people as they have no available vehicles to move from remote areas to the upazila or district headquarters.
