Cocaine found in another drum of edible oil

Tests have confirmed traces of cocaine in another barrel of edible oil seized at Chittagong Port in June. Sources at the Chittagong Port Authorities, BSTI and BCSIR and the Department of Narcotics Control have confirmed that traces of cocaine have been found in the barrel of the edible oil imported from Uruguay in May this year. An official of the Department of Narcotics Control said altogether 107 barrels were seized from a container at the Chittagong Port on June 27 and separate tests confirmed the existence of liquid cocaine in one of the drums in late June and early July.
Dulal Krishna Saha, narcotics department’s chief chemist, said they recommended testing a second barrel after finding cocaine traces in the first. A Chittagong court permitted the test of the second barrel on September 6 (Sunday) after the case’s investigation officer moved court. “We have found traces of liquid cocaine in barrel number 59 during Monday’s test,” Saha told bdnews24.com. Asked about the amount of the cocaine in the drum, Saha said they did not perform tests to ascertain the quantity as there was no court directive. Detective Branch (DB) of police say they suspect the contraband was destined for India. Khan Jahan Ali Limited imported sunflower edible oil from Uruguay, a Latin American country. Three of the six men arrested over the seizure have reportedly confessed to the crime.
