Col (Retd) Rashid\\\'s property confiscated

The property of fugitive Colonel (Retd) Abdur Rashid, sentenced to death along with 6 others for assassinating Bangabandhu and most of his family members four decades ago, has been confiscated. Condemned convict Col (Retd) Abdur Rashid’s properties on 6.12 acres of land, including the absconding Bangabandhu killer’s dwelling house, have been seized by the order of Comilla District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hasanuzzaman Kollol. A team of Chandina Police Station hanged 6 signboards confiscating the 6.12 acres properties, including Rashid’s house, in Chaigharia-Kartala-Panipara and Thangaon areas under Chandina upazila in Comilla district. Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ali Afroz, and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station Rasul Ahmed Nizami were also present during Rashid’s property seizure on Sunday afternoon. Chandina Police Station sources said according to the directive of the Ministry of Home Affairs, issued on February 15, the district magistrate ordered to confiscate the property of absconding condemned convict in Bangabandhu murder case Col (Retd) Abdur Rashid, and his father Abdul Karim. The court also asked to take legal steps in this regard. Following the directive of the ministry and order of the court, 6 signboards have been hanged in the properties in Chaigharia-Kartala-Panipara and Thangaon areas, Chandina police officials said. According to the court order, 10.42 more acres land property of Col (Retd) Rashid has been seized on December 19 in 1996. In total, the government confiscated 17 acres of land property of Col (Retd) Abdur Rashid, reportedly hiding abroad since a warrant of arrest was issued against him in 1996, according to a news agency.
