Cold claims 22 lives in Jessore

BENAPOLE (Jessore), Dec 21 (UNB): At least 22 people, including 10 children, 5 women and 7 men, died from cold-related diseases in the past one week in Jessore district. The cold wave disrupted normal life and businesses in the district. The cold-hit poor people now badly need warm clothes and blankets. The sun invisible for almost all day long amid dense fog intensified the cold. The thick fog covered the district. The temperature continued 10 degree Celsius on an average in the district. The people were forced to stay indoors. A large number of people, including the minor children and old people, are worst sufferers of the biting cold sweeping the country particularly the northern regions. Jessore Medical College Hospital consultant Mahfuzur Rahman said the people have been affected by cold related diseases like diarrhea, asthma, fever, bronchitis and pneumonia.
