Cold storage facility critical to food safety: Mozena

FE Report | Saturday, 20 September 2014

US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan W Mozena said Friday that transportation and cold storage facilities could help farmers keep their produces fresh and safe and prevent use of formalin and other poisonous chemicals.
Underlying the need for hygiene food, he noted that use of refrigerated transportation and storage network facility will benefit all.
"Bangladeshi farmers can use this (Cold Chain Network Facility) and other transportation and cold storage facilities aiming to keep their produce, fresh and safe," he said while inaugurating the Cold Chain Network Facility in the city.
Golden Harvest and USAID's Cold Chain Bangladesh Alliance arranged the programme.
The Cold Chain Network Facility (CCNF) is an important step in eliminating formalin and other poisonous chemicals mixed with produces that are harmful to human health.
"This refrigerated transportation and storage network is a win-win-win for everyone. The farmer is now able to maximise his profits; Golden Harvest provides a vital and profitable service to the community and the consumers," he said.
He further said that the new system of refrigeration is a game-changer for agriculture and nutrition across the country.
"Today (Friday) with this simple ceremony, we launch massive change and transformation of Bangladesh's food supply," Mozena added.
Dr AB Siddiqui, Chief of Party, Cold Chain Bangladesh Alliance, USAID Mission Director in Dhaka Janina Jaruzelski, Managing Director of Golden Harvest Rajeeb Samdani and Chief Operating Officer of Golden Harvest Samad Choudhury, among others, attended the programme.
