Collective efforts to end violence against women stressed

RAJSHAHI, Oct 2 (BSS): Speakers at a media-briefing have unequivocally called for collective efforts alongside forging social resistance to end violence against women for taking the nation towards cherished goal.
They viewed changing mindset towards women coupled with eradicating poverty, child marriage and illiteracy could be the effective means of attaining the cherished goal in this regard.
Association for Community Development (ACD) organized the briefing session held at its conference hall in Rajshahi city today where pathetic killing stories of two girls (Rima Khatun and Sadia Akhter Kona) were narrated by their respective family members.
ACD Project Coordinators Ehsanul Amin Emon, Monirul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Programme Officer Ahsanullah Sarker and Monitoring and Documentation Officer Raihanul Islam provided information relating to various form of repression and sexual harassment against the girls.
Main thrust of the meeting was to disseminate plights of the repressed girls to the media personnel and devise ways and means on how to formulate a work-plan to prevent violence against women effectively.
The discussants mentioned that ensuring equal rights on education, training, science and technology is the precondition to women empowerment.
Apart from this, they mentioned that overall national development could not be possible until the womenfolk are educated and ensured all other fundamental rights, they deserve.
Taking part in the open discussion most of the participants underscored the need for substantial reduction of the violence against women and favoured for their social awareness and development of socio-economic condition to this end.
They said the incidents of violence against women and stalking have increased to a great extent in the last few years.
The increasing social crimes has created a grave concern among the guardians and others concerned and called for a collective effort to address the crime through reducing disparity between men and women in the society.
