Combating menace of drug abuse -

Sunday, 5 June 2022

Nothing is more unfortunate than young men ruining their own lives by using drugs like pethidine. And yet this has become a common sight in Dhaka city, where most people have got used to it as something normal. What is more worrying is that it is happening in front of the country's largest hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Anyone crossing Chankharpool intersection just after the DMCH, can easily spot a crowd of drug addicts helping each other to inject drugs. They do it even in front of the policemen patrolling there.
These drug addicts do not look mentally and physically healthy. Their clothes are in tatters and their bodies are covered in dirt. Drugs have nearly brought them to the brink. They have wasted their precious lives, and now they are influencing the younger generations by taking drugs on the pavement of a busy road. So, I request the government to raise awareness of the younger people about the hazards of drug abuse. We need to join hands together and protect our society from this menace.
