Speakers at a seminar Wednesday put emphasis on a combined action plan concerning the future effects of the climate change to country's agriculture. They said, ahead of the subject global warming we should find a pathway of impacts of climate change on human systems such as agriculture including crops and livestock. They predicted that following the global warming the sea level would rise which would grasp a vast area of our coastal land. They were speaking at a seminar titled "Agriculture Development Under Changing Climate Condition" organized jointly by Bangladesh Social and Economic Forum, Dhaka School of Economics (DScE), Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) and PKSF held in the city. Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdul Latif Biswas called upon all research institutions of the country to generate a common idea to combat the climate change while addressing the seminar as the chief guest. He said: "We should take agriculture as a whole- including crops, fisheries and livestock. All the research institutions of the country should make a common platform to find a path for fighting the climate change." Chief discussant of the seminar, vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Agriculture University MA Sattar Mandal said the country has possibilities in marine fisheries as well as in poultry sectors. BIDS research director Dr M Asaduzzaman in his keynote speech said that the increasing temperature would seriously affect rice production. According to him, the Boro production would reduce by 32 per cent if the country witnesses a 60 per cent moisture stress. "Rain fed rice like Aush and Aman output will also fall apart," he predicted. Chairman of PKSF, Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman emphasized on adaptation plan while chairing the programme. He said we should talk and think of adaptation plan concerned to the changing scene. "And the ideas and plans could not be implemented without a political unity," he added.
