Comments of Kamaruzzaman son contemptuous: AG
Monday, 10 November 2014
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam has criticised war crimes convict Mohammad Kamaruzzaman's son for dubbing his father's conviction wrong.
A special tribunal sentenced the Jamaat-e-Islami leader to death last year for war crimes including for killing of 120 people and raping women at Sherpur's Shohaghpur.
The Appellate Division on Nov 3 upheld the death sentence on the same charges.
At a media call, Kamaruzzaman's son Hasan Iqbal claimed his father was not involved with the Shohaghpur massacre, according to a news agency.
He claimed there was no proof of his father's involvement and dubbed the death verdict "a travesty of justice".
Attorney General Alam said, "Such comments towards the court tantamount to contempt."
