Commerce minister faces defamation suit

A defamation case was filed against Commerce Minister Col (retd) Faruk Khan with Bogra Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court Thursday, reports UNB. Staff Reporter of Dainik Bangla Bulletin and CNS Rajshahi correspondent Sumam Sardar filed Tk 50 million defamation suit. Chief Judicial Magistrate Hasanuzzaman admitted the case and fixed April 10 for hearing. The plaintiff in his petition said the minister termed the journalists as 'dishonest and extortionist' at a meeting with Bangladesh Industrial Salt Manufacturers' Association at his office on April 5. The Minister by his audacious statement has tarnished the image of the plaintiff and journalists' community and the journalists have been subjected to an embarrassing situation in the society, added the petitioner.
