Commerce Minister puts thrust on efficiency, capability of auditors

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed Monday laid stress on having proper efficiency and capability of the auditors to ensure transparency and accountability in the country's financial sector.
Mr Ahmed said this while inaugurating the renovated central library of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at CA Bhaban in the city.
ICAB president Masih Malik Chowdhury FCA, its vice presidents AF Nesaruddin FCA and Kamrul Abedin FCA and other council members and past presidents, among others, attended the inauguration ceremony.
Opening the renovated library, established in 70s, Mr Ahmed said, "ICAB is under the Commerce Ministry but it is an autonomous body. The ministry does not have any control over the institute."
The country is moving forward, the Commerce Minister said, adding that "We hope that with the efficiency and capability of the Chartered Accountants, our country will step forward more speedily...."
Mr Ahmed further said that the government will provide financial support to the sectors of IT, pharmaceuticals, leather, furniture and jute in order to boost those in the coming days.
The renovated library, shifted to the 3rd floor of CA Bhaban from its 7th floor, was brought under various services including Wi-Fi connection, officials said.
They further said that around 19,000 copies of books, manuals, reference books, journals, periodicals and research materials etc are available at the ICAB central library.
Only students and members of ICAB can use the library, they said, adding that the institute has another library in Chittagong.
A total of 20,700 copies of books, journals and other reading materials are there at both the libraries, they added.
