Speakers at a roundtable in the city Saturday stressed the need for forming an independent commission for preventing all kinds of persecution of children, reports BSS.

Justice Golam Rabbani, general secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Mujahidul Islam Selim, relief and social welfare secretary of Awami League Prof Nazma Rahman and general secretary of Samyobadi Dal Dilip Barua, among others, spoke at the function.
They underscored the need for keeping the children away from violent political activities for the greater interest of their upbringing.
They said the underprivileged children, in most cases, are being used as pickets in different political programmes, and the situation is gradually worsening.
The speakers said the future citizens of the country must be protected from all sorts of inhuman and degrading treatments like poverty, disease, injustice and violence.
Referring to various forms of repression and cruelty, they said the children should be educated with political ideologies in order to prepare them as future leaders.
