Commitment of all seen vital for making EFA successful

RANGPUR, June 6 (BSS): Comprehensive commitment of all is vital for turning the Education for All (EFA) programmes into a social movement to make it successful within the year 2015 in the country.
Speakers made the observation while addressing at a day-long seminar titled 'Education for All: Global Monitoring Report-2010' organised by National Association of UNESCO Clubs in Bangladesh in cooperation with National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Education and UNESCO Dhaka here Saturday.
Side by side with bringing all including marginal children under the EFA programmes, they also stressed providing need-based and technical education with adequate computer knowledge and information and communication technology (ICT) at all levels.
They mentioned that there is no alternative to knowledge-based modernised education for achieving the long-cherished goals of an economically self-reliant Bangladesh as envisaged by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The speakers specially urged the teaching community to ensure their accountability to their institutions and to play a due role in bringing all marginal children under the EFA programmes despite various socio-economic and other constraints in society.
Principal of the Rangpur Teachers' Training College Prof Hosne Ara presided over the seminar, while Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur BM Enamul Haque addressed it as the chief guest.
Educationist Habib Uz Zaman presented excerpts of the main keynote paper titled 'EFA-Global Monitoring Report-2010' prepared by Prof Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury of the University of Dhaka at the seminar.
A total of 120 participants including headmasters, headmistresses and teachers of different government and non-government primary and secondary schools, NGO executives and activists, public representatives, professionals and journalists took part in the seminar.
