Committee formed to frame education policy

Naming a 16-member committee for formulating a time-worthy, modern education policy, Minister Nurul Islam Nahid Wednesday said the government wants to come out from the culture of frequent shift in policies which leaves such recipes unimplemented, reports UNB.
"A 16-member committee headed by National Professor Kabir Chowdhury has been formed to prepare recommendations for the education policy based on the policy made in 2000," he told reporters at his office in the afternoon.
Minister Nahid said the government would introduce time-worthy and modern education system in Madrasahs alongside lessons based on religion to produce worthy and competitive citizens.
He said the committee will place their concrete recommendations before the ministry within next three months.
National University VC Prof Kazi Shahidullah, Bangladesh Economic Society President Kazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmed, Dhaka University (DU) Professor Dr Hadika Halim and Prof Jafar Iqbal are among others on the panel assigned to the vital task of framing policy for upgrading the country's outmoded education system.
The other members of the committee are Professor of DU English Department Dr Fakrul Alam, DU Education Research Institute Prof Siddiqur Rahman, DU Prof Dr Jarina Rahman Khan, Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education Prof Nitai Chandra Sutradhar, President of Bangladesh College Teachers’ Association Principal Kazi Faruq Ahmed, Additional Secretary (retd) Mohammad Siraj Uddin Ahmed, Mohammad Abu Hafiz, Prof ABM Siddikur Rahman, Barrister Nihad Kabir, Bangladesh Teachers’ Association President Principal MA Awal Siddiqui and Prof Sheikh Ekramul Kabir.
Replying to a question he expressed the hope that their recommendations would help formulate a modern education policy for rearing competent citizens to confidently face global challenges.
