Committee to review essentials

An official committee is scheduled to hold a meeting today (Thursday) to review the latest hike in prices of rice, potato and edible oils.
Commerce Adviser Hossain Zillur will preside over the meeting to be held at the commerce ministry. The prices of coarse rice went up by at least Tk 4.0 per kg and potato by Tk 4.0 to Tk 5.0 per kg during the last couple of weeks.
Prices of the rice and potato have recorded a rise despite a bumper production of the items, adding to the sufferings of the consumers, said a senior commerce ministry official.
The price of per kg of refined edible oil is now being sold between Tk 112 and Tk 115 from the pervious price of Tk 110 although there is no supply shortage of the item, he said.
