Commodore Awal promoted to rank of Rear Admiral

Commodore ASMA Awal of Bangladesh Navy was Monday promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral, reports UNB.
Naval Chief Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam formally adorned him with the badges of rank of Rear Admiral at Naval Headquarters Monday morning.
High officials of Bangladesh Navy were present during the occasion, says an ISPR release.
The government has upgraded the rank of Principal Staff Officer of Bangladesh Navy from Commodore to the rank of Rear Admiral. Born in Jamalpur district in 1957, Rear Admiral Awal joined the Bangladesh Navy as officer cadet in July 1976.
Later, he received various professional trainings in the UK, USA, Turkey and India. During his long career, Rear Admiral Awal commanded different types of ships and establishments. He has commanded the frigate BNS Ali Haider, BNS Umar Farooq and was appointed as Commodore Commanding of BN Flotilla.
Recently, on completion of his tenure as Defence Attaché of Bangladesh Mission to Sri Lanka, he has been appointed as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operation).
