Commonwealth secy gen meets Khaleda

Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma met with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her political office at Gulshan in Dhaka on Saturday night. The meeting lasted for about one-and-half hours, sources at the BNP chief’s media wing have said. They said Kamalesh Sharma arrived at Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office at about 9:45pm where the meeting continued till 11:15pm. The one-and-half-hour meeting discussed different issues related to Bangladesh politics. During the meeting, the Commonwealth secretary general promised Commonwealth’s help in holding a fair election in Bangladesh. On the other hand, Khaleda Zia informed Kamalesh Sharma about the government’s action against opposition parties, violation of human rights, absence of rules of law, bar to opposition parties’ programme. BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, BNP Chairperson’s advisers Reaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed, among others, were present, according to a news agency.
