Billions of takas are allocated in our national budget every year for roads and highways and railway projects. How road accidents happen everyday leading to deaths of several people should be critically as well as technically examined. In most cases fitness of the automobiles involved is questionable and questionable is also the competence of the people who issue such fitness certificates. The road condition at different places of highways in many areas is also pitiable to say the least. There are certain areas where accidents happen regularly, yet the authorities do not pay proper attention.
Several sections of railway services were closed down nearly two decades ago, but alternative transport comparable to railways or new railways are yet to be made available for the travelling public. Development does not mean mere improvement of roads and railways for a particular region only, it means equal development all over the country. We are familiar with development indices, but how much good quality roads, new railway lines etc. are made yearly is not known, as we learn through different sources including publicity media that India made roads of 13 kilometres or so daily.
