MANIKGANJ, Sep 15: Community Clinic Health Assistance Trust will supply medicines worth Tk 1.2 billion to all community clinics within the next couple of days, which is expected to resolve the shortages of basic medicines that prevailed in community clinics for a year.
Md Akhtaruzzaman, managing director of the trust, made the announcement on Monday at a seminar held at the conference room of Manikganj Deputy Commissioner's office.
"After the approval of the new budget, we have already purchased medicines worth Tk 120 crore (Tk 1.2 billion). Within the next couple of days, the medicines will be supplied to all community clinics," he said.
The seminar was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Dr Manowar Hossain Molla and attended by Health Service Division Deputy Secretary Nasir Uddin, along with officials from upazila administrations, health departments, and other government offices.
Speakers at the event emphasised that community clinics play a vital role not only in providing medicines but also in delivering health advice, maternal and child care, immunisation programmes, and preventive services. They noted that such facilities are enabling rural and marginalised people to access healthcare at little cost.
The seminar was organised by the trust, which is under the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The trust collaborates with social organisations, private individuals, institutions and government to deliver primary healthcare to rural people of the country. The community clinics supply 22 types of medicines for free to marginal patients who need them.
DC Dr Manowar Hossain Molla said, "Community clinics are the lifeline of our healthcare system. To improve the quality of these services at the grassroots level, collective efforts are essential.
