Compost fertiliser, urea from human wastage produced

GAZIPUR, May 13: Compost fertiliser and urea are being produced from human wastage here.
Urine was used as insecticides. A non-governmental development organisation 'Practical Action' developed the technique by creating special environment friendly toilet by which separated the urine and the stool and converted those to compost and insecticide for successfully applying those in vegetable garden.
As a result use of chemical fertilises and insecticides dropped drastically. This project has been implemented at Dhirashram GK Adarsha High School and some houses at Pajulia village.
In the high school, apart from compost fertiliser bio-gas has also been produced from the human excreta is be used for cooking. The organisation in also producing compost fertilisers from kitchen wastage.
Josna Akter, a housewife of Pajulia village is now earning TK 7 to 8 thousand per month by selling compost at Tk 10 per KG.
This was told by Iqbal Karim, team leader of the organization in a briefing at its office on Tuesday. Among others Engineer Md Sadek Hossain, Executive engineer of Gazipur Md Farhad Hossain, Abdullah al Mamun, Abdul Khalek and Anisuzzaman were present on the occasion.
