Computer Diploma Engineers are neglected in govt service

In today's days of scientific and technological advancement, the globe is flooded with the development of Information Technology. Contesting with the race of advancement of information technology (IT), we, the Bangalee nation, is trying to the best of our ability to keep pace with the supreme advancement of IT. As a part of that Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) has already launched a four-year long diploma course in Computer Engineering in almost all the polytechnic institutes of the country. For the first time in 1994, BTEB launched three years' long diploma engineering course in three polytechnic institutes. According to that, twelve batches have successfully completed their course. They are playing a vital role in our private IT sector, serving non-government companies, foreign companies, ISPs, IT education institutes and training centers.
There is no denying the fact that their dedicated services are also helping the nation to build "A Digital Bangladesh".
However, they are greatly being deprived of employment in government services in spite of having great abilities and commendable skill. According to new pay scale, Diploma Engineers will be employed in government, semi-government and autonomous bodies as "Sub-Assistant Engineer" equivalent to a second class gazetted officer in the pay scale of Tk. 8000.
It is a matter of great regret that this designation and pay scale are strictly maintained in cases of appointment of Diploma Engineers from all other disciplines except computer.
With bright dreams, hopes and aspiration and severe enthusiasm, a quarter of the brilliant students are taking admission into diploma course in computer engineering in government and non-government polytechnic institutes under the supervision of BTEB whereas they do not know what would be their future, They neither have enough facilities for higher education in private universities nor the opportunities of getting government services. Computer diploma engineers are deprived of both of these rights from the state.
Now a days whenever computer division is launched in any sector under all the bureaus and directorates of the government, the posts of computer operator, DTP Operator (Graphics Designer), Data Entry Supervisor, Hardware Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Network Engineer, Assistant Network Engineer and Assistant Programmer are created wherein candidates having HSC or Degree or BSc in computer science & engineering/ Honours are wanted. But all the computer diploma engineers from BTEB are quite able to serve in the above-mentioned posts with most efficiency. These are the mid-level posts and I think only the diploma engineers are the deserving candidates for these posts.
It is a great concern that no rules and regulations have yet been enacted for the employment of computer diploma engineers in government services. So, we expect that the democratically elected government will take proper steps, setting rules right for employment of computer diploma engineers in different sectors of the government like the case of diploma engineers, already in government service, who had passed from others disciplines.
