Bangladesh Railway (BR) is going to introduce computerised reservations in 30 more railway stations by October this year to improve the efficiency in booking seats.

The BR has meantime brought 53 railway stations under computerised networking through the project-Computerised Seat Reservation and Ticketing System (CSRTS).

"We'll introduce computerised bookings in 30 more major stations to provide our customers better services from October this year," said Md. Belayet Hossain, director general of BR Sunday.

"The railway officials of these stations will be able to inform its customers details of passenger carriages, operation timing and availability of tickets," he added.

By using the networking system, railway officials will be able to supervise the works of the subordinates including maintenance of railways tracks timely, he said.

"The networking service will ease the processing time. It will replace the traditional manual system, which is error-ridden, costly and time-consuming," DG of BR said.

At present, BR operates 227 passenger trains on different routes across the country. Around 33,195 employees are involved in the railway sector.

BR has a total of 454 stations spread throughout the country.
