Concern Worldwide, PKSF sign deal

Friday, 13 July 2007

Concern Worldwide (CW) and PKSF Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) paving the way for 15 local NGOs to benefit from micro-finance funds to improve the lives of the extreme poor, reports UNB.
PKSF General Manager MA Hakim and Concern Country Director Kieron Crawley signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides.
Through the MoU - the first of its kind to link the local NGOs with the government - Concern and PKSF undertook to proactively strengthen such organisations so that funds for the extreme poor can be utilised effectively.
"Despite the wide availability of funds in Bangladesh, many NGOs that operate in remote areas, such as 'haor' and 'char', fail to benefit because of a simple lack of awareness and a failure to meet minimum performance criteria", Concern MF Adviser Achyut Aryal explained.
