Condition of driver shot in Sylhet cop-Jamaat clash worsens

The condition of an auto-tempo (human hauler) a driver, injured by bullets during the police-Jamaat clash in Sylhet city, deteriorated at MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital on Saturday night. Rubel Ahmed, 25, the driver of the four-wheeler carrying a petrol police team, received bullet injuries during the clash between cops and the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in Dargah Gate area in the divisional city on Saturday afternoon. Four Shibir men were injured in the clash. The clash ensued around 12noon when Jamaat-Shibir activists began throwing bombs and bricks at the police when they tried to break up their demonstration. Police fired 30 rounds of rubber bullets from shotguns to control the situation. Police said that Jamaat-Shibir men also opened fire on them during the chases and counter chases. Police claimed that a Shibir activist was arrested from the spot and an unexploded bomb was recovered from him, according to a news agency.
