Condolences pour in for Justice Shahabuddin

Different political parties including BNP, mayors of two Dhaka city corporations and the country's apex trade body on Saturday expressed condolences at the death of former president Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed.
Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at the death of former president and chief justice.
"Shahabuddin Ahmed will be remembered forever in the democratic history of Bangladesh, as a neutral, free and fair election was held in 1991during his time," said Mirza Fakhrul, while addressing a function organised by a faction of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) at the National Press Club.
Meanwhile, mayors of Dhaka south and north city corporations expressed condolences at the death of Mr Ahmed.
In separate messages, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul, according to the city corporations' public relations cells.
Founder and Trustee of Gonoshasthaya Kendra Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury expressed shock at the demise of the former president.
"He (late Shahabuddin) was the only person in the history of Bangladesh who had played a courageous role for establishing democracy and rule of law in the country," Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said in his message of condolence.
Gonoforum President Mostofa Mohsin Montu and General Secretary Subrata Chowdhury in a joint statement also offered condolences at the death of the former president.
Gonoadhikar Parishad Convener Dr Reza Kibria and Member Secretary Nurul Haque Noor in a joint message expressed deep shock at the death of former president and chief justice Shahabuddin Ahmed.
President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md Jashim Uddin also mourned the death of the former president.
