A conference will be held on March 25 in Dhaka to draw attention of the development partners to the effects of climate change on Bangladesh and necessary support for protection against future disasters, officials said Wednesday.
The Bangladesh government and the British donor agency -- Department for International Development (DFID) -- will jointly organise the day-long conference titled "UK-Bangladesh Conference on Climate Change."
"We are going to hold the gathering of the development partners, government officials and experts in Dhaka aiming to realise how the climate change is a major challenge for Bangladesh. We will find out ways of sustainable protection from the disasters in future days," a spokesman of the DFID Dhaka office told the FE Wednesday.
Donor countries and agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), national and international experts, civil society people and government policy makers will attend the conference.
This conference will be the preparatory one for the upcoming London conference in May this year on the climate change and its impact on Bangladesh, a government official said.
Bangladesh and British governments will jointly organise the conference in London in late May.
"The Dhaka conference will mainly compile the recommendations form the development partners and experts on the effects of climate change in the country and its possible ways of protection," the DFID official said.
