Congenial atmosphere for persons with disabilities underscored

RAJSHAHI, Dec 4 (BSS): Speakers at a discussion underscored the need for ensuring congenial atmosphere to make an end to repression and discrimination against the persons with disabilities to enable them leading a decent life.
Terming the disabled persons as the integral part of the society, they said time has come to bring them into the mainstream of the society for overall development of the nation.
Action on Disability and Development (ADD), an UK-based development agency, and Bijoy Protibandhi Unnayan Sangstha jointly organised the discussion at Atkashi School Playground in the city on Monday afternoon marking the 21st International Disabled Day and National Disabled Day-2012.
"Commitment of removing obstacles in building unified society" was the main theme of the day.
Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton attended and addressed the discussion as the chief guest with President of Bijoy Protibandhi Unnayan Sangstha Prof Ruhul Amin Pramanik in the chair.
RCC Ward Councilor Belal Ahmed, Journalist Mustafizur Rahman Khan, Headmistress of Intellectually Disabled School Kolpona Roy Bhowmik, Headmistress of High Care School Shahnaz Begum and President of Badhan Protibandi Unnayan Sangstha Sohel Rana also spoke on the occasion.
Mayor Liton emphasised the need for establishing a sound and friendly atmosphere for the disabled persons to ensure a dignified position for them in society. Referring to the government steps for welfare of the disabled persons, he said all concerned should make the best use of all facilities in the greater interest of these people.
