Congresswoman Meng keen to visit Bangladesh

Envoy M Ziauddin has briefed US Congresswoman Grace Meng about the Bangladesh government’s steps to improve factory safety and labour rights after the collapse of multi-storey Rana Plaza at Savar last year. ‘The government had taken concrete steps to ensure factory safety and workers rights,’ the Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA told Meng during a courtesy call on the Congresswoman in New York on Friday morning (US eastern standard time). During the meeting the US Congresswoman expressed her keen interest to visit Bangladesh. Grace Meng who is also a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said they are following the developments in Bangladesh with ‘lots of interest’. Meng expects ‘more interactive dialogue in the apparel sector between the manufacturers and the workers’. Consul General of Bangladesh in New York Md Shameem Ahsan was also present during the meeting, according to bdnews24.com.
