Consensus among parties to stop illicit financial flow stressed

Wednesday, 2 July 2014

Several rights-based civil society organisations Tuesday called for political consensus between the two major parties in the country instead of resorting to blame game on the issue of illicit financial flow, reports UNB.
They demanded of the government to publish a white paper on the issue as well as to initiate bilateral agreements with Switzerland and other countries in this regard and to stop illicit financial flow as the developed countries are doing these days.
The demands came from a human chain programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club. Twelve rights-based bodies, including farmers and labour organisations, organised the human chain.
The twelve organisations included Online Knowledge Society, Arpon, EquityBD, Unnayan Dhara Trust, MKS, Kishani Shava, Coastal Development Partnership, Jatiya Sramik Jote, Development Synergy Institute, Bangladesh Krishak Federation, Bangladesh Bhumihin Somity, Samaj, Bangladesh Agriculture Labor Federation, and Sangsaptak.
Moderated by Mosafa Kamal Akanda of EquityBD, the human chain programme was addressed, among others, by Syed Aminul Haque of EquityBD, Subol Sarkar of Bhumihin Samity, Golam Sarwar of Bangladesh Agricultural Labour Federation, Badurl Alam of Bangladesh Krishak Federation, Aminur Rasul Babul of Unnayan Dhara Trust and Rezaul Karim Chowdhury of EquityBD.
