Sunday, 7 June 2015

Discussants at BBC Bangla Sanglap on Sunday observed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit has created the opportunity to fulfill the expectations of the people of Bangladesh. They expressed the hope at the 120th episode of BBC Bangla Sanglap, held at TCB Bhaban in city’s Karwan Bazar. Attending the programme, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, president of Chittagong metropolitan unit of BNP, said Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka has created the scope to fulfill Bangladeshi people’s expectations of getting water of the Teesta River and stopping border killings. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s adviser HT Imam said the government has always given importance to “connectivity” – a catch-all term for improved communication and infrastructure links –as Bangladesh will be benefited a lot from it. From the perspective of Bangladesh, Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Dhaka was a successful one, he said. Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) executive director Prof Mustafizur Rahman said the connectivity barriers between the two countries would be solved through the agreements, but the key concern is how the agreements would be implemented. However, Prof Amena Mohsin of Dhaka University noted that no noted improvement has been noticed regarding the sharing of Teesta water which is vital for the development of agriculture in the northern region of the country. She said India wants to maintain a good relation with its neighboring country Bangladesh as India is expecting to hold a leading position in the world; so it will be interesting to see how much Bangladesh can achieve on the strength of its diplomacy, according to UNB.
