FE Report
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) and freight forwarders reached Thursday a consensus on finalisation of freight forwarding policy-2007.
The NBR chairman along with high officials of customs department held a meeting with the leaders of freight forwarding business to resolve differences over the policy.
Some rules of the policy were amended at the meeting in consultation with the freight forwarders.
"The NBR will send the changed policy for the approval of Finance Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam on Monday next," NBR Chairman Badiur Rahman told newsmen after the meeting.
The policy is expected to be placed before the law ministry by Tuesday for vetting, he said.
"The government will issue SRO (statutory regulatory order) on the policy after withdrawal of the writ petitions filed by the freight forwarders against the one adopted in 2006," he said.
In the meeting, the freight forwarders have agreed to withdraw the writ petitions within the shortest possible time.
"We have reviewed the policy and changed some of the rules in line with the recommendations of the freight forwarders at the meeting," he said.
The NBR chairman, however, would not elaborate on the changes made at the meeting.
He said both sides have reached a consensus on all the amendments to be made to the policy.
The NBR will issue SRO only after withdrawal of writ petitions and finalisation of the policy, he said.
The freight forwarding business will come under licencing system after finalisation of the policy, which will boost the tax revenue income of the government.
