Conservation body finds no impact by Chevron's seismic survey

Saturday, 25 July 2009

International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) found no harm to Lawachhara Reserve Forest, a safe haven for a number of rare species of birds and animals, for Chevron's 3D seismic survey, reports UNB.
IUCN, a UN recognised body, stated this in its recently published final post-survey report on one of the country's most sensitive reserve forests.
IUCN monitored and conducted its own pre- and post-survey to follow the US-based international oil company (IOC) Chevron's survey that was conducted as part of its gas exploration move.
The Chevron conducted the survey from January to April last year to have a better picture of the gas reserve in the Moulvibazar Gas Field.
There was no significant impact on the flora and fauna of the reserve forest, says the executive summary of the IUCN post-survey report.
