Government is eager to give constitutional recognition to indigenous people, said Suranjit Sengupta, Co-chairman of the special committee on constitution review, reports bdnews24.com.
"Our mainstream politicians and political forces are with us", he said.
Suranjit, also the chief of the parliamentary watchdog on law ministry and member of Awami League's advisory council, was speaking at a discussion organised by Bangladesh Indigenous Forum at the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) Tuesday.
"The struggle of the indigenous people is the fight for secularism and Bangali nationalism," he said, adding, "We've a unique opportunity as the government has made attempt to review the constitution."
He also suggested the indigenous people to submit specific proposals on constitutional review.
