Construction of bridge begins in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Apr 26 (BSS): Much awaited construction work of 90-meter bridge over Naleya River at Sharbesherghat under Nakaihat Union of Gobindaganj Upazila in the district began Monday.
Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is implementing the work at a cost of about TK 25 million under Rural Infrastructure Improvement Project while Asian Development Bank in providing the fund, office sources said.
Engineer Monowar Hossain Chowdhury, MP, formally inaugurated the work on the bridge in the afternoon by unveiling a plaque and offering munajat as the chief guest.
Citing a series of development work being implemented for the people of his constituency, Engineer Monowar Hossain Chowdhury said after the construction of the bridge a longstanding demand of the locals would be fulfilled.
More development activities would also be done in phases to make the Upazila a model one in the country during the tenure of the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.
Executive Engineer AKM Luthfur Rahman, Upazila Engineer Ahsan Habib, AL leaders Matlubur Rahman Nanna and Kamrul Hasan Fahian, public representatives and local elite including journalists were present on the occasion.
Talking to the the news agency, Executive Engineer AKM Luthfur Rahman said the work would be completed by December next, it is expected.
