Construction of Chaktai-Mariners Road kicks off

CHITTAGONG, Jul 7: Construction of Chaktai-Mariners Road under the auspices of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) involving Tk 60 million began Thursday.
CCC Acting Mayor Monzur Alam and Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Shah Mohammad Akteruddin jointly inaugurated the kick-off of the road through unveiling a plaque in Chaktai area of the port city.
Monzur Alam, in his address as the chief guest on the occasion, said when completed, the road will boost the communication system of the port city.
The CDA chairman, in his address, spoke of different projects which had been undertaken in this connection.
When implemented, the projects will help solve the city's long-lasting water-logging problem and the shape of the city will have a new look, he added.
The 12-kilometre Chaktai-Mariners Road is being constructed on both sides of the Chaktai canal.
Meantime, a total of 10 vessels were fined Tk 2,75,000 on charge of creating risk through overloading goods during the inclement weather at the Chittagong Port (CP) channel on the same day.
Sources said CP Magistrate Munir Chowdhury conducted drives against the aforesaid vessels at the CP channel.
