Construction of embankment completed in Satkhira

SATKHIRA, Oct 4 (BSS): The construction work of the alternative ring embankment at the breaching point of the encircled embankment of the BWDB at Hariskhali area under Pratapnagar union was completed.
About one thousand local people in cooperation with army personnel constructed the ring embankment voluntarily in four days. Some 52 corps, led by Major Alamgir of Satkhira Army Camp extended their all out support to the local people during the contraction work.
Earlier, the local people with support from the army also constructed another alternative embankment at Nakna area in the Pratapnagar union.
The BWDB office sources said embankment at the points washed away by the high tide in the Kapatakhya River on September 28 and 29 this year flooding 14 villages in the union and marooning 15 thousand people.
Besides, about 400 shrimp ghers, Aman crops on 700 acres of land and 500-earthen houses were damaged.
