FE Report | Monday, 25 July 2022
Construction of Natore Hi-Tech Park began as its foundation stone was laid at a programme on Sunday.
The technology park is expected to draw investment from home and abroad and help flourish the ICT ecosystem in the region.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak laid the foundation stone as the chief guest at a ceremony held in Natore's Singra upazila, a press release said.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami attended the ceremony as a guest of honour.
The hi-tech park will have a seven-storey steel-structure building, a three-storey dormitory building, a cineplex, playground and other facilities.
In his speech, Mr Palak said by dint of different measures taken by the government, the country has produced 0.65 million freelancers and created jobs for two million youths in the IT and ITES sector.
The country's IT sector earns $1.4 billion every year, he said, adding that young freelancers are earning foreign currency at home.
With the financial support of neighbouring India, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) is implementing the project at a cost of Tk 1.9 billion.
The Indian high commissioner said the technology park will play a vital role in creating skilled human resources.
