Construction of sculpture on liberation war opens in Barisal

BARISAL, Sept 26 (UNB): Construction work on 'Mukto Bihongo'(the free bird), first sculpture on liberation war in Barisal, was inaugurated today (Friday) at Amtala crossing, the entrance point of the city.
Barisal Mayor Advocate Shawkat Hossain Hiron inaugurated the construction work in the morning.
Construction of the monumental sculpture 'Mukto Bihongo' with steel-made eight flying birds in memory of December 8, the liberation day of Barisal, is expected to be completed within next three months at a cost of Tk 1.0 million (10.07 lakh).
The project was funded by Barisal City Corporation (BCC) with the assistance from Barisal Sangkritik Sangothan Samonny Parishad and Charukala.
State Communication Firm of Dhaka by using steel, stone, concrete and tiles is implementing the project, designed by sculptors Hamiduzzaman Khan and Aminul Hassan.
Aminul Hassan, sculptor, Mohiuddin Manik Bir Protik, freedom fighter, Syed Dulal, president Barisal Sanskritik Sangothan Samonny Parishad, Awlad Hossain Dilu, former mayor in-charge, KM Shahidullah, local ward councillor, Advocate Talukdar Md Yunus, district AL office secretary, Mehdi Hassan, chief executive officer of BCC, spoke at the inaugural function.
