Construction of SFF will be completed by 2015

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said Wednesday the construction of Shahjalal Fertiliser Factory (SFF) at Fenchuganj in Sylhet would be completed by 2015.
He also said 73 per cent of the construction work of the country's largest fertiliser factory has already been completed and expressed the hope that the rest of the work would be finished in time.
The industries minister was talking to journalists after visiting construction works of the factory at Fenchuganj.
Bangladesh and China signed an agreement on the construction of SFF in December of 2011 at an estimated cost of Tk 54.09 billion. Of the amount, China is giving Tk 39.87 billion credit assistance. Chinese Exim Bank is offering the 20-year loan at only 2.0 per cent interest.
The factory will produce 0.58 million tonnes urea and 0.33 million tonnes of ammonia annually.
Chinese construction farm Complant is supposed to complete the job in 38 months making the operation possible in February 2015.
Mr Amu said the government is working for sustainable and knowledge-based industrialisation. Remarkable progress has been achieved in industrial sector because of different policies and programmes adopted by the government, he added.
Lawmaker Mahmud us Samad Chowdhury, and Industries Secretary Mohammad Maeenuddin Abdullah were present on the occasion, among others.
