Consumers gaining sovereignty in globalised market

Market has turned into a buyers' market and nowadays the consumers have become more sovereign in this globalised market, said Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Vice President Khandaker Shahidul Islam.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of a five-day training course on 'Effective Selling Skills' organised by DCCI Business Institute (DBI) in the city recently.
Shahidul Islam mentioned that it was the time of globalisation and free trade economy featuring stiff competition in every sector.
He said that without having effective selling techniques, no organisation can survive in the present-day market situation. Excellent presentation, good behaviour, smiling face, positive attitude were some of the key factors to become successful in salesmanship.
He added that effective selling skills could help us draw the customers' attention to a particular product. Every market had different customers. In the face of changing market scenario, customers had many options to choose products or services of better quality with competitive prices.
A total of 30 participants from renowned business organisations of different sectors, like education, garments, pharmaceuticals, IT, service industry, leasing, banking etc took part in the training.
DBI Executive Director Md Hossain Ali mentioned that DBI had been offering 40 short-term need-based training courses for professionals and business executives.
Ali said that DBI was the only Authorised Examination Body (AEB) of IPSCM course of International Trade Center (ITC), UNQTAD/WTO, Geneva. It had been holding International Certificate/Diploma Courses and Examinations on IPSCM (International Purchasing and Supply Chain Management) in Bangladesh and invited all concerned to avail of the opportunity.
He also gave a briefing on the different activities of DBI including EMBA programme as well as computer training courses, like MS Office, E-mail and internet, spreadsheet analysis, hardware troubleshooting etc.
Resource person of the course Md Abdus Samad Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion.
The course aimed at familiarising the topics -- Salesmanship-An Introduction; Qualities of Sales people; Sales Call Preparation and Sales Call Opening; Sales Call Closing and Follow Up; Need Discovery and Need Satisfaction, Dealing with Customers; Making Effective Customer Relation; Effective Customer Development Tools; Direct and Online Marketing; Video Role Play and so on.
