Contempt rule against Prothom Alo editor

Monday, 3 March 2014

The High Court on Sunday issued a contempt of court rule against vernacular daily Prothom Alo editor and its joint editor for publishing two 'contemptuous' articles on its proceedings over anticipatory bail, reports UNB.
An HC division bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed issued the suo moto rule asking Prothom Alo editor Motiur Rahman and its joint editor Mizanur Rahman Khan to show cause why contempt proceedings should not be drawn against them for publishing 'contemptuous' articles titled 'Minute-e ekti agam jamin kibhabe?' (how an anticipatory bail possible in every minute?) and 'Chhoy theke aat saptaher swadhinata', (freedom for six too eight weeks ) in its Friday (Feb 28) and Saturday (Mar 1) issue respectively.
Besides, the HC asked Mizanur Rahman Khan, the author of the articles, to appear in person before it on March 6 to explain his stance.
