Contesting parties asked to resolve HC rule by Dec 15

Friday, 25 November 2011

The Appellate Division Thursday asked the contesting parties to resolve by December 15 the rule pending with the High Court (HC) upon a quashing petition filed by Jama'at leaders Motiur Rahman Nizami and Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed in connection with the Barapukuria coalmine graft case. Passing the order, a seven-member Appellate bench disposed of the application for leave-to-appeal filed by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) against the HC orders, reports UNB. On November 12, 2008, the HC, staying the proceedings of the case against the two indicted accused, had issued rule upon the government and the ACC to explain why the proceedings should not be quashed. On October 5 the same year, the trial court indicted former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, 10 powerful ministers of her cabinet, including Nizami and Mojaheed and five other bureaucrats, in the Barapukuria Coalmine graft case.
