Continuation of democratic system important: Ashraf

THAKURGAON, Oct 16 (BSS): General secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL) and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, MP, said here today that continuation of democratic system is the sole medium of keeping momentum of the country and the party in power.
"Awami League is not merely a political party as people of the country have many expectations from this party," he said attaching importance on holding council of the party in every three years.
Syed Ashraf said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the triennial council of Thakurgaon District Awami League (AL) at the District Council auditorium.
Thakurgaon District AL president and former Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen, MP, chaired the inaugural session of the council, also addressed, among others, by AL presidium member Satish Chandra Roy, joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, organising secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, religious affairs secretary Sheikh Md Abdullah, RIM Ubaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, MP, Dabirul Islam, MP, Imdadul Huq, Selina Jahan, MP, District Al general secretary Sadek Quraishi and vice-president Mokbul Hossain Babu.
Syed Ashraf said, "Today's Awami League is the result of supreme sacrifices of Bangabandhu, four national leaders and hundreds of its leaders and workers. New leadership emerges and momentum in party activities takes place if council is held every three years. But, the party can't march forward if there is any mistrust."
