Cooperative mkt of fresh foods in city

Saturday, 11 August 2007

A cooperative marketing, initiated by a group of young professionals, was introduced in the city Friday to ensure fresh and organic foods at a reasonable price for the consumers. The organisers jointly inaugurated a stall, first of its kind, at BDR Open Market in Khilgaon Jora Pukur ground at 7.0am. The objective of the marketing system is to ensure fresh and chemical-free foods at a fair price and inspire the people towards this joint venture marketing system. It's a participatory process of marketing comprising marginal farmers, consumers and organisers. Shajahan Shahim, owner of Chitra Courier Services and one of the organisers, said marginal farmers cultivate the vegetables in an organic way and directly send the produce to the stall through this cooperative marketing system. — UNB
