Cop among 35 injured in Sunamganj clash

At least 35 people, including a cop, were injured in a factional clash of BNP in Dakkhin Sunamganj Sadar Upazila in Sunamganj district on Wednesday afternoon. The clash occured between the supporters of Faruk Ahmed, convener of Dakkhin Sadar Upazila unit of BNP and Ansar Uddin, the Upazila unit BNP leader who was deprived of position in the recently declared committee. Ansar Uddin and his followers brought out a procession at Pagla Bazar and blocked Sunamganj-Sylhet highway by torching tyres and placing logs. At that time, supporters of Faruk group came to the spot where the two groups engaged in an altercation, which later turned into a clash. The two sides, equipped with lethal weapons, swooped on each other leaving 34 injured. The rival groups vandalised and torched some shops. Being informed, police rushed in and brought the situation under control lobbing 50 rounds of teargas canister and firing rubber bullets. A policeman was also injured. Three people were arrested from the spot, according to a news agency.
