Activists of pro-government Bangladesh Chhatra League have assaulted a police constable when he stopped BCL President HM Badiuzzaman Sohag's vehicle that defied traffic lights. The incident happened at Zero Point in Dhaka city on Friday afternoon. Paltan Police Station OC Golam Morshed said the injured police constable, Md Mamun, was admitted to Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital. Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s traffic division (south) Deputy Commissioner Khan Mohammad Rezwan said it was not possible for a traffic constable to know who was Chhatra League president or general secretary. ‘His (traffic constable) job is to stop any vehicle violating traffic signals. Mamun performed that duty,’ he added. Police officials said Mamun stopped the microbus carrying Sohag when it was crossing Zero Point ignoring traffic signal. BCL leaders and activists accompanying him beat Mamun, they added. Deputy Commissioner Rezwan said processes were going on to file a case over the incident. Sohag could not be reached for his version on the phone, according to bdnews24.com.
