Cop assaults UNO

Gazaria UNO Dr ATM Mahbubul Karim, also assistant returning officer of the upazila polls, was physically assaulted by a policeman in the upazila on Saturday afternoon. Witnesses said election materials were being numbered on the upazila parishad premises at the directive of the UNO. However, assistant sub-inspector Emdadaul Haque tore off the number papers and hurled abuses. When Mahbubul asked about the reason, the policeman grabbed the collar of the UNO and punched him. Meanwhile, the returning officer and the Election Commission were informed of the matter and a probe panel was formed to look into it, according to a news agency.
