Cop hurt, mugger bullet-hit in city \\\'shootout\\\'

Two people, including a sub-inspector (SI) of police, were injured in a 'shootout' between cops and a gang of muggers in the city on Tuesday. The injured were identified as Abdul Hakim, an SI of Sutrapur Police Station and suspected mugger Sohel. Being tipped off, a team of Sutrapur Police Station conducted a drive at Dhulai Khal Hazi Abdul Majid Lane around 3:15am while a gang of 5-6 armed muggers were taking preparation to commit mugging, said the SI. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the snatchers started firing shots at police who also retaliated with firing triggering a shootout, leaving the SI injured and Sohel bullet-hit. Police arrested Sohel from the spot and later detained another mugger named Shafiqul Islam after a hot chase. Sohel was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital under police custody where the SI also received medical treatment. Police also recovered lethal weapons from the arrested muggers, according to UNB.
