Monday, 7 July 2014

A police official and a mugger suffered bullet wounds in a gunfight in the city’s Eskaton Road Monday night.
Police and witnesses said a group of muggers swooped on a businessman near the Janakantha Bhaban and snatched Tk 5.9 million he was carrying in a carton around 8:30pm, according to a news agency.
As the trader tried to resist them, the thugs fired gunshots, said Deputy Commissioner (DB-PR) Masudur Rahman.
Hearing the sound of gunshots, on-duty police patrol team rushed to the spot in the aid of the businessman.
Sensing dangers, the muggers opened fire at the policemen forcing the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered a brief gunfight, leaving sub-inspector Iftekhar and a mugger injured.
At one stage, the other members of the gang fled abandoning the carton with the money.
Later, police arrested the injured mugger and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police recovered the money of Tk 5.9 million from the spot.
The identities of the businessman and the arrested mugger could not be known immediately.
